Sounds like something a Ray Bradbury or a Gabriel Garcia Marquez story could fit right into your class. Wish I could attend! I am going to pick up a few of the books from the reading list anyway.

Sure thing, Jeffrey. Here's a bit from the official course description:

Italo Calvino characterized supernatural occurrences in fiction as appearing “freighted with meaning, like the revolt of the unconscious, the repressed, the forgotten, all that is distanced from our rational attention.” Beginning with the notion that the literature of the fantastic lends itself to subversive endeavors in regards to form and meaning, we will read widely across periods and geographies, seeking to identify and experiment with elements of the tradition, from the level of the sentence out to story. Among our topics of interest: obliquity, ambiguity, phantasm, and dream; ghosts, doppelgängers, lacunae, monsters.

Hi, Madailui. Thanks for reading "Inheritance." I'm not sure that the piece has been analyzed in detail anywhere, but if you have any specific questions about it, I can try to answer them. Feel free to email me at the address on the about page.

Hi..
My name is Madailui, I'm from Romania and I've recently read your short story, 'Inheritance'. What is it about? I don't know why, but it intrigued me. Where can I found more information about the symbolism in the story?

Thanks so much, Zoe! Very generous of you. I'm more excited than ever to be doing this, what with all these fine folks supporting me.

As for the new work: I'll have to give that some thought. I think I have your email address around here somewhere...

I enjoyed the Manual of Detection immensely and I am delighted to find The Third Archive.
I ride my bike to work even through the long, cold, wet monsoon here (some of the natives refer to as "winter.") Can't wait to try it with an umbrella.
Looking forward to your next book and your next trip to Portland.
